Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get a book reviewed?

It’s easy. Just send us two copies of any title that retails for $59 or more, or one copy that retails for $125 or more. Enclose a printed copy of our Book Review Request Form for each title. Package well, so the books arrive in excellent condition. Send to Sylvia Breau, Editor, 15209 Quarry Rd., Lake Oswego, OR 97035. We will notify you by email when your review is completed.

Why is there no cost to me?

The payment we receive from selling the book is how we earn our fee. That is why we must receive finished, bound copies of books (no galleys or reader proofs) in excellent condition.

Can I use the reviews you write?

Sure! That’s what they’re for. You can use them for any sales, publicity, or promotional material for your book. Although you can't modify the reviews because they are under copyright, you may use the full review or an excerpt without prior permission. We require that you credit our reviewer and us in this manner:  "John Doe, Notable Book Reviews."

Do my books get any extra publicity through Notable Book Reviews?

Yes. All reviews are published on our website. In addition, reviewers often post them at Amazon.com or other book sales websites.

What is the turnaround time for a book review?

We try to review all books within 30 days, but this is not always possible. We will notify you by e-mail when your review has been posted on our Web site.

What do you review?

We review books in a wide variety of primarily non-fiction topics. For a complete list, go to What We Review – and Don't.

What don’t you review?

We don’t review pornography or works that promote violence.

Do you accept softcover books?

Yes, but only if that title is not available in hardcover, and is worth at least $59.

Do books have to be worth a certain amount in order for you to review them?

Yes. Books must have a retail price of at least $59.

Do you require more than one copy of a book that you are going to review?

Yes. We require two copies of each book whose retail price is between $59 and $125. For titles that retail for $125 and over, just one copy is required.

Do you guarantee to review every book you receive?

Yes, we guarantee to review every book we receive, within the following guidelines:

    • We must receive the correct number of copies of books worth at least $59
    • The copies must be finished, bound copies that arrive in excellent condition
    • The work must not contain pornography or promote violence.

If the book meets the above criteria, we guarantee to review it. The exception is if we cannot say anything at all positive about a work. In such a case, we assume that you would prefer to avoid potentially disastrous publicity, and we return the copy or copies as a courtesy.

Are there any circumstances when I will receive my book(s) back from you?

Yes. There are two such circumstances. First, if our Review Board cannot find anything positive to say about a book, we will return the number of copies we received from you along with an explanatory note.

Second, if we receive a book that falls outside the competence of our review staff, we will endeavor to find a qualified reviewer. If we cannot find a qualified reviewer, we will return the number of copies we received from you along with an explanatory note.

Do you review books with older publication dates?

Yes, if you have older titles that you would still like reviewed, we will review them.
